Partnerships and Allies

Wangkumarra people have always understood the value of relationships β€” with each other, with neighbouring Nations, and with those who walk alongside us in caring for Country, culture, and community. Today, we continue to build partnerships that reflect our values and support our vision for a strong future.

🀝 Working Together With Respect

We engage with a range of organisations and communities who support our goals around land management, cultural heritage, language revitalisation, and economic opportunity. These partnerships are based on respect, open communication, and shared responsibility.

πŸ›’οΈ Partnership with Santos

We are in ongoing conversation and partnership with Santos, a company that operates within our broader cultural landscape. Our engagement focuses on cultural heritage protection, land access, and ensuring that development respects Wangkumarra values, sacred sites, and our Native Title rights. We continue to advocate for transparent communication and long-term cultural and environmental care.

🌿 Working with NSW & Qld National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS)

We collaborate with NPWS on initiatives that protect and manage our Country β€” including Mt Wood and surrounding areas β€” and support cultural events, site access, and conservation activities. Together, we aim to embed cultural knowledge into land care practices and support community-led cultural tourism and education.

🌏 Neighbours and Mob

Wangkumarra people maintain close ties with our neighbouring Nations, including the Malyangapa, Wadikali, Yandruwandha/Yawarrawarrka, Kullili, Punthamarra and other language groups in the Channel Country and Corner Country regions. These connections are rooted in shared histories, marriages, ceremony, and Country. We continue to walk together to protect our rights, share language and culture, and support one another through joint projects and community events.

🌱 Being a Good Ally and Partner

True partnership means listening, showing up, and staying accountable. We value those who support our efforts by resourcing our goals, respecting our leadership, and creating space for Wangkumarra voices. Whether through research, land work, community programs or language projects β€” we welcome partners who work in a good way.

Together, we’re building pathways for future generations that honour our past, protect our present, and shape a future grounded in Wangkumarra knowledge and strength.
