Mirritya is a proud Wangkumarra/Paakantyi woman, born in Bourke, NSW. The founder of Wangkumarra Bukarra, she is a scientist, educator and language activist committed to community-led research and language revitalisation. After completing the Master of Indigenous Languages Education (MILE) degree, in 2022 she was a recipient of the prestigious Charles Perkins Memorial Award for Academic Excellence for her research. She is currently completing a PhD that combines Traditional Knowledge and ecological science to investigate the health and survival of culturally significant species on Wangkumarra Country. Her work bridges Western science and Indigenous knowledge to support language renewal, cultural continuity, and environmental care for future generations.
